Ways To Add Farmhouse Style To Your Home

I love cottage style, but more and more I’m leaning toward farmhouse decor. Not only is it very popular, but it reminds me of simpler times and treasured visits to my grandmother’s house when I was a child. Even though it was a simpler time, it was not necessarily easier.  My grandmother churned her own butter, raised chickens, canned her own food, “put up” food in her freezer, and purchased eggs from the neighbor across the street.  Not that I want to do that, but it brings to mind a more self sufficient time when things didn’t have to be Click Here To Read Full Post →

Container Gardening: Best Flowers To Use

A while ago I shared a post about cute container gardening ideas, so I thought it might be fun to look at some of the best plants to use in those containers. Pansies: Cottage At The Crossroads has used one of my favorite flowers in the galvanized tub below.  I love the way the color of the pansies look against the grey galvanized tub.  It’s such a soft look, but makes the flowers stand out as well. Petunia: I love these petunias with the soft green edging.  I’ve never seen them before.  Angie The Freckled Rose filled a red clay pot with Click Here To Read Full Post →

Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover Ideas

I’ve been thinking more and more about making over our kitchen.  When we bought our house, a kitchen makeover was part of our plans.  The cabinets are what I call black.  They aren’t really black, but a very dark (“cheapy” looking) composite material.  Not very pretty. When I’m working on our house, I like to look at Pinterest and different blogs I follow for inspiration.  It makes it so much easier to imagine what our house might look like to see what others have done. Below are some of the ideas I’m thinking about for our kitchen makeover: Wood Floors: We’re Click Here To Read Full Post →

Container Gardening Ideas

Container gardening is one of my favorite ways to garden so I’ve put together a collection of container gardening ideas to use as inspiration.  Plus, it’s so much fun to see what others have done in their gardens. I like container gardening because it allows me to move flowers that are blooming around the yard and to add color to my porch and deck.  Not only that, but it’s so much easier to pot plants in containers using my potting bench instead of having to bend over to plant them in the ground.  And at my age, that’s an important Click Here To Read Full Post →

Snow Storm – Can’t Get Out Of The Driveway

It’s a good thing we had just been to the grocery store and stocked up on food because after the recent snow storm, we have over a foot of snow in our driveway and we don’t even want to try to get our little PT Cruiser out.  Now I know that most people would just shovel the snow out of the driveway, but at our age that would not be such an easy task.  Besides, since we’re both retired, we can just stay home for a few days in a nice warm house and enjoy the snow from inside.
