Container gardening is one of my favorite ways to garden so I’ve put together a collection of container gardening ideas to use as inspiration. Plus, it’s so much fun to see what others have done in their gardens.
I like container gardening because it allows me to move flowers that are blooming around the yard and to add color to my porch and deck. Not only that, but it’s so much easier to pot plants in containers using my potting bench instead of having to bend over to plant them in the ground. And at my age, that’s an important consideration.

Topsy Turvy Planters:
I love this idea over at Cottage At The Crossroads. I’ve seen topsy turvy planters before, but I really like the combination of the lavender flowers against the galvanized buckets. This one is a table top application, but it would be just as easy to make one that sits on the ground.
A Raised Planter:
What a great color combination in this Empress Of Dirt raised planter. The white daisies, pink geranium, and “whatever the little purple flowers are” just seem to pop against the wood of the planter.
This is such a lacy design on the wall planter that An Extraordinary Day has shared. I love the color combination of purple, white, and yellow. It looks really good against the grey wall and black wrought iron planter.
Antique Toy Planters:
What a great idea House of Hawthornes had to use this cute toy truck as a planter. I really like how the yellow of the truck looks with the green plants.
Our Southern Home has used a red, white, and blue theme for this container garden. I love the flowers in the white vintage planter and isn’t that “flag” box planter so cute? It would look great on a buffet table for a 4th of July party.
Hollowed Out Log:
This old hollowed out log like Diva of DIY used is the perfect place to plant your summer flowers.
Vintage Items For Planters:
The vintage bicycle that Hymns And Verses used in her garden reminds me of the bicycle I had as a child. It looks great in the garden surrounded by plants and with the cute basket filled with flowers.
Looking at all these container gardening ideas definitely has me in the mood to add a few new ones to my collection. I have an old tin bucket that holds some of my favorite day lilies, but I’m going to be on the look out at garage sales this year for some new and interesting looking containers.
